Vivek Haria

Composer

Vivek Haria is a British composer of Indian heritage based in London. His passion for composition was ignited during his formal studies as a singer at the Royal College of Music Junior Department, where he discovered a love for writing music for the voice and vocal ensembles. This fascination continued to grow throughout his university studies, where he was able to incorporate musical elements from his cultural heritage, the Hindustani Classical tradition, into his idiom. His repertoire now also includes solo, chamber, and orchestral works.

Vivek’s music draws on his heritage and personal experiences, blending traditional and contemporary elements to create a unique sound world. His works have been performed by ensembles including members of the Birmingham Contemporary Music Group and also the Piatti Quartet when he was a finalist in Conway Hall’s Clements Prize 2021. Notable highlights also include a new work for internationally renowned players Mahan Esfahani and Fenella Humphreys, which was premiered as part of the Cheltenham Composer Academy 2022. Most recently, he has written for players of the London Symphony Orchestra as an Associate on their Soundhub scheme.

Vivek read Music at Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge, where he studied composition with Raymond Yiu and Richard Causton. He continues to be mentored by Brian Elias.
