Holly Smith

Composer

Holly Smith is a Master’s student at King’s College, London, studying Musicology and Ethnomusicology. In 2014, Holly became a founder member of the girls’ choir at Canterbury Cathedral, introducing her to the world of liturgical singing. She graduated from the University of Cambridge in 2022 where she read Music and held a choral scholarship with the Choir of Trinity College, directed by Stephen Layton. During this time she sang on many recordings alongside the day-to-day services in Trinity College Chapel, as well as performing across the world. Holly was director of King Henry’s VIII, the consort group at Trinity College, and arranged concerts for the college music society that promoted the performance of new works, often including new music written by members of the group.

Holly enjoys composing choral settings of the liturgy, as well as using composition as a way of analysing and reflecting on poetry and the written word.
